Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist and presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. She served on an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively together with President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
